Who Am I?

On the first day of many of my college courses, the first thing the professor wanted us to do was introduce ourselves by listing our name and three unique things about ourselves.  I always sat at my desk nervously waiting until it was my turn to speak.  Frantically running through my mind was always the same question: what is unique about me?  The question never got easier to answer, especially as my classes became more advanced, and my interests and hobbies became more like those of everyone else in my classes.

I am a first year teacher of 7th grade students in what many people would consider to be a remote town in the Appalachian mountains.  This town is my hometown, and I teach in the school that I attended for six years as a student.  I love it.  Of course, there are good days and bad days as anyone experiences, but it was my goal to return home to teach since I was a junior in high school.

I am married to my best friend.  We began dating in 2008 and got married this past year (May 2012) after I graduated from college.  I have been fortunate to find someone who shares the same values and the same beliefs (on most topics) as myself.  We have the same life goals for our family and are navigating through our first year of marriage fairly easily and successfully.

I love cats.  Dogs are okay, but I would much prefer a cat over a dog any day.  We have two cats that we have rescued from the humane society in the past year.  One is an all black adult Himalayan named Jelly Bean that we adopted nearly a year ago.  The other is Baxter, a tabby who is only 3 1/2 months old.  They are perfect companions for us!

It's not very unique, but that's who I am in a mini-nutshell; I am completely okay with it.
